About

History

We don’t live in the past, but we like to look back at it every so often.

When Dr. Donald Paine opened the doors to his practice over 100 years ago, he likely didn’t know what he was starting. He didn’t know that a tradition of doctors training their successors like Dr. John Reynolds, Dr. Dave Reynolds and Dr. Cecil Kohake did would become engrained in the business and carefully carry the lessons learned through the years. He didn’t know that the current partners would find eyeglasses fashioned by Dr. Paine himself, in the basement of the original clinic. Or that patients that visited as children would still be coming to the clinic well into their 70s, with their original patient files written in pencil.  Today’s Drs. Deutscher, Rottinghaus, and Oxandale  represent a continuum of vision care, tethered to the lives of their patients in Topeka past, present, and for countless generations to come.
